A Uganda joins the rest of the world to mark the world environment day, the minister for water and environment Hon. Beatrice Anywar has today launched the national environment Act 2019which is to help enforce environmental protection in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the Act, Anywar cautioned Ugandans to consider increasing their appetite towards saving nature.
She further warns that the current rate at which the environment is wasted by Ugandans is alarming and pauses great threat to the future of uganda’s sustainability and growth.
The team leader environment and climate change at UNDP Uganda, Onesimus Muhweri is calling upon all Ugandans to take individual actions towards saving the environment.
According to the Onesimus, 2020 is a special year where the world is to ratify the global climate change conventions, bio-diversity protocol among other protocols aimed at saving the environment.
He then cautions Ugandans to double their efforts towards saving the environment.
However, the executive director NEMA, Tom Okurut notes that, they are to start using scientific risk environment assessment to help profile environmental hazards across the country for better solutions.
This year’s world environment day celebrations are marked under the theme, “Time for Nature” and the national theme, “Nature is speaking, Listen.”
The UN general assembly during the UN conference on human environment in Stockholm 1972 declared 5th June the international world environment day.
