Parliament approves creation of Terego districtThe parliament of Uganda has today passed a motion to create Terego District out of Arua in the bid to extend government service delivery to the grass-loot. Terego which has been created months to elections will be operationalized at the beginning of the next financial year 2020/2021 starting on Ist July. Area MPs believe the new administration unit will support development in the sub-region. Under a staggering economy ravaged by COVID 19 pandemic, when the government is struggling to finance the newly created districts to get fully operational, Parliament has today adopted a motion to create Terego district out of Arua District. According to the parliamentary resolution the newly created district will be operationalized in less than two months’ time, beginning on 1st July 2020. The minister of Local governments Raphael Magyezi said Terego District has been long-awaited by the locals and will improve service delivery in the area. In the recent attempts to approve Terego district flopped due to lack of quorum by parliament, but today the huge turn-up of MPs made the progress of the motion smooth. When the matter was put to vote 236 MPs voted in its favor, 2 voted against as 5 legislators abstained. Magyezi promised to mobilize all resources required to see Terego district takeoff on 1st July without delay.
