The minister for Kampala Benny Namugwanya has threatened to close markets in the city for failure to observe social distance in the wake of covid-19.
The minister together with the Resident City Commissioner Faridah Mpima and the Ag KCCA Executive Director Eng Andrew Kitaka is currently visiting Kampala markets to assess their compliance with the presidential dirrective in a bid to prevent further spread of Covid-19.
While adressing vendors at Kibuye market today, Namugwanya directed the market leadership to measure four meters and label them for each of the vendor and work out modelities of ensuring that the vendors work in shifts to enable this.
” We know this is going to be hard but you should try as much as you can to save lives” the minister said
She also urged them to put in place entrance and exit points to avoid congestion of buyers and also ensure that all the people entering the market wash their hands with soap and water among other operation procedures developed by the Ministry of Health.
Minister Namugwanya also warned the vendors to be cautious of money as it is one of the carriers of the Coronavirus advising them to wash their hands or sanitize every time they hold it.
