National Union of Disabled Person in Uganda (NUDIPU) has released the disability rights report of 2019 indicating persistent discrimination of persons with disabilities in the country.
The report which was compiled together with Track FM was conducted in ten sub-regions across the country from June to December 2019
While presenting the report findings at a function held in Kampala today, Javi Ssozi, the country director Track FM noted that the society still has a negative attitude towards persons with disabilities which makes them lag behind in terms of education and employment among other social and economic challenges.
Bumali Mpindi the Chairperson NUDIPU urged government to implement the Disability act 2019 which he says addresses most of the challenges highlighted in the report.
While officiating at the launch of the report, Zamina Malole the commissioner equal opportunities commission who represented the gender minister expressed government’s commitment to ensuring that the recommendations are taken on by the various stake holders to ensure that the rights of persons with disabilities are upheld in the country.
