The electoral commission has confirmed having registered 17,782,594 voters in the just concluded voter registration exercise in December 2019.
Speaking at the launch of the display of the national voters register starting on 19th february to 10th march 2020, the commission’s chairman, Justice Byabakama Mugyenyi Simon reminds Ugandans of the need to cross check their particulars during this given period.
He also states that there will be no more chance for registering fresh voters or re-registering if anyone missed in the December 2019 exercise.
Purpose of Display:
Its to check for the correctness of voters’ particulars on the register.
Confirm that that the photographs appear against the correct particulars.
Raise objections to the inclusion and removal pf voter’s particulars from the register.
Report non eligible voters among them, the dead, under age, who appear more than once among others.
With UGX.861 billion needed by the polls commission to organize the 2021 polls, the commission still faces challenges to have government release the requested billion.
Recently, parliament asked the officers from the commission to slash some of the planned activities so as to operate within the budget, something the officers objected.
But today, the commission chairperson, Justice, Byabakama Simon assured the media that government will be availing them with the needed money to carryout all the planned electoral activities.
Uganda is expected to go to the polls for her general election early next year.
