The treasurer general of the ruling party in Uganda National Resistance Movement (NRM), Hon. Rosemary Namayanja reveals that the party is not in any way bothered with the failure by students over 18 years not to participate in the on going voter verification exercise carried out by the electoral commission in the country.
The commission last week announced the start of voter verification exercise at village level following the changes in polling areas, with the exercise slated to last for only two weeks.
Currently the student above 18 years are in school and will not be able to take part in this crucial exercise. But the NRM says, this is just a simple exercise which does not call for every voter to participate.
Namayanaja now adds that they will be able to participate in the next exercise when the commission will be compiling the final voters’ register.
In a related development, members of the new political wave, People Power yesterday lashed out at the electoral commission for hosting the verification exercise at a time when students are in school, saying this deprives them of their right to participate in the electoral process of their country and demanded that the exercise be shifted to suitable time when this special group will be available or call for a public holiday to cater for the students.

Namayanja has further called for mass mobilisation of residents to attend the Village Council meetings during which the verification exercise will be carried out.
She was addressing a press conference at the Party Headquarters in Kampala this Wednesday. The National Treasurer read out to the journalists a special message by the Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba. The message is addressed to all NRM Chairpersons at District, Sub County, Parish and Branch levels.
The verification exercise that started on Monday 21st October ends on Monday 28th. The activity will involve the identification of the dead and those that have since shifted to other areas. A special list of People With Disabilities (PWDs) will also be generated during this exercise.
The verification exercise which started this week Monday will end next week lasting for only 14 days.
The ongoing exercise is part of the country’s electoral process which drive the country to the general polls in 2021.
