The High court in Kampala has handed a 35year jail term to Major Juma Seiko’s former Body Guard, over the 2016 shooting that took place at his Nakasero residence in Kampala, killing two people and injured two others.
Justice Flavia Anglin found Alex Cherotich a former UPDF soldier guilty of murdering Lameck Ogwanga and Fred Ssembatya, and then attempted to kill a one David Ssenkubuge and Ssolomon Mugabi, using a gun.
Mugabi was a resident at Major Seiko’s apartment who was returning home at the time of the alleged shooting.
Six Prosecution witnesses testified in this case whose crime occurred on 4th/December/2016 at Nakasero Hill in Kampala.
Now Justice Ssenoga handed Cherotich 35years on each count of murder and 25years on each count of attempted murder, but she said the sentences will run concurrently, meaning she will serve the highest punishment.
The Judge noted that
Cherotich being a trained personnel he ought to have acted like a civilized person and not killed innocent people, by recklessly shooting at people who had brought a person he knew back home.
Justice Ssenoga informed cherotich that he has a right of appeal within 14days from now.
In his own words, Cherotich apologized for his unwarranted action and agreed to serve the sentence.
