Parliament of Uganda Elects 9 EALA Representatives.
Parliament has elected nine representatives of Uganda to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) for a five-year term of office. NRM has taken six out of the nine positions and opposition has secured only one slot that has been grabbed by Democratic Party’s Gerald Siranda.
After a long day at of Campaigns and elections of Members represent Uganda to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), the speaker of parliament Anita Among declared the results. 478 MPs participated in the exercise that that took place at parliament and 11 votes were declared invalid.
The Six of the candidates of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) have not found any obstacle to bounce back to Arusha based legislature to serves their second term of office.
These include Rose Akol who got 422 votes, Mary Mugyenyi, Denis Namara, James Kakooza, Stephen George Odongo and Paul Musamali.
Opposition survived by an inch to grab a slot in EALA after enduring tough competition from independent candidates. Only DP’s Gerald Siranda out of the four opposition candidates made it on the list of nine. The other two winners are Veronica Kadogo and Jacqueline Amongin who are both independents
The speaker among and Prime Minister Nabbanja congratulated winners and urged them to drop their party colors and carry the agenda of Uganda as a country to the regional parliament
Among also took time to condemn Aringa South MP Yorke Alion Odria who caused a scene at parliament when he assaulted a police officer accusing him of aiding ballot staffing. Among was joined by other MPs to condemn the misconduct of the legislator.
