Ministry of Lands Loses 12bn

The Ministry of  Lands, Housing, and Urban Development has appealed to the parliamentary committee of the physical infrastructure to reinstate the Shs12bn that has been cut from its proposed 2022/23 financial year budget by the ministry of finance.

The appeal was made by the minister of state for Housing Persis Namuganza while appearing before the committee of physical Infrastructure chaired by Kigolobya county MP David Karubanga to justify the policy statements for the ministry of lands. Namuganza noted that the complete suppression of the budget for inland travels will greatly affect the ministry activities which will escalate land grabbing and other related fraud.

“There is no way a technical person can have a clear picture of the type of land where he is creating a title without visiting the locus” Hon. Namuganza explained.

Namuganza emphasized that the complete suppression of the fieldwork budget is going to affect the improved system of fighting fake land titles since the technical officers, land surveyors, will not be able to move where land issues occur therefore land titles will be created on the table in offices.

The ministry of finance has sliced funds from the budgets of different ministries and agencies and channeled them to the parish development model.
