17 African countries are gathered in Munyonyo to discuss new strategies on how to eliminate yellow fever on the black continent.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Uganda’s health minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng confirms that, among the strategies is to have enough epidemiological evidance and statistics to guide application of the yellow fever vaccine in routine immunization.
The laboratory and focal persons on yellow fever in their respective countries will focus on generated statistics and also on streamlining diagnosis of yellow fever through reference laboratories and ensure that the diagnosis is standardized to eliminate yellow fever.
Aceng also reports that the yellow fever vaccine arrived in the country yesterday and plans to commence vaccination in Bulisa, Moyo, Maracha and Yumbe are yet to commence and this will be followed by routine yellow fever vaccination in the country’s immunization programme.
She further notes that by May the health ministry will be giving a final statement on mandetory routine yellow fever vaccination
